The past three decades have witnessed growing global recognition of entrepreneurship's role in solving unemployment and driving economic renaissance. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have emerged as the primary source of new employment opportunities and the incubator of creative ideas. The concept of entrepreneurship is fundamentally linked to the creation and management of small and medium enterprises.
Who is the entrepreneur? The entrepreneur is the individual who creates and manages a business, bearing the risks of uncertainty, investing their money, reputation, and effort in pursuit of returns greater than employment would provide. The entrepreneur possesses superior information and market insight justifying the acceptance of risk.
In the Palestinian context, SME development represents a strategic priority for multiple reasons: chronic unemployment generated by decades of occupation; limited natural resources constraining large-scale investment; and the urgent need to build a healthy middle class to drive sustainable social and economic development. Supporting Palestinian entrepreneurship is not merely an economic policy — it is a strategy for national resilience and the construction of economic sovereignty from the ground up.
