While developed countries publish periodic wealth distribution reports, this idea appears not to have found its way into Palestinian public discourse despite its profound significance.
What would a Palestinian Annual Wealth Report accomplish? Such a report would document, with reliable and objective data, the economic situation of Palestinian citizens; map the distribution of wealth across the population; track the evolution of the middle class; and illuminate the new sources of wealth that emerged in the post-Oslo period.
Such a report would serve multiple purposes: enabling policymakers to design evidence-based economic and social policies; helping investors understand Palestinian market structure; and enhancing societal awareness of social justice dimensions in the distribution of economic growth benefits. Economic transparency is not a luxury — it is a foundational pillar of sound democratic governance. Palestine, as it builds its institutions, needs data-driven public discourse about wealth, poverty, and inequality to ensure that economic growth serves the many, not just the few.
