Thinking about Palestinian economic development pathways sometimes requires reference to successful international models — not for literal replication, since each society has its own specificity, but for extracting lessons adaptable to the Palestinian context.

Hong Kong offers a compelling model of an economy that achieved remarkable development despite scarce natural resources and limited geographic space, relying instead on strategic location, trade openness, and high-quality legal and financial institutions. The Palestinian lesson: the absence of sufficient natural resources does not constitute an insurmountable barrier to development, provided political will, governance quality, and human resource development are present.

Michael Jordan, arguably the greatest basketball player in history, offers a different lesson: exceptional achievement requires relentless effort and the courage to experiment. A genuine Palestinian economy cannot be built through wishful thinking but through bold departure from comfort zones and confident experimentation in areas where Palestinians hold comparative advantages: human capabilities, geographic position, and the global networks of the Palestinian diaspora. The choice of development model must ultimately reflect Palestinian specificities and aspirations, not foreign templates.
