PalThink for Strategic Studies launched a training program titled “Empowering Youth in Entrepreneurship and Small Enterprises,” funded by the Atlas Network.
The training aims to empower youth in entrepreneurship and small enterprises through education, research, and refining the entrepreneurial and leadership skills of 25 graduates and university students from Palestinian universities in the Gaza Strip. Participants will receive 10 days of training focused on the administrative and entrepreneurial skills young people need to build a small enterprise, and on building the capacities of emerging Palestinian youth for creative thinking in establishing their small enterprises in the future.
The training was opened by the Director of PalThink for Strategic Studies, Omar Shaban, who welcomed the trainees and pointed to the importance of learning the concepts of entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship because of their real and effective impact in creating job opportunities, reducing rising unemployment rates, spreading the concepts of freedom, and building a Palestinian youth cadre capable of creativity through designing and planning entrepreneurial ideas.
He said, “This training is essential to enable you to prepare a business plan for your own project through which you can create job opportunities for yourselves and go out into your communities with entrepreneurial ideas. Entrepreneurial youth can change many of the circumstances in which we live, especially in the Gaza Strip.”
The program’s trainers, Eng. Saeed Al-Agha and Ms. Samah Al-Safadi, entrepreneurship and business development consultants, emphasized the expected outcomes of the training program, which will extend over ten days. During it, participants will become familiar with the concept of entrepreneurship, the characteristics of the successful entrepreneur, formulating the project idea, understanding the business model and the business plan, and other topics related to how to obtain funding for the project and market it.
The first day of training covered a general assessment of the participants, the characteristics of the successful entrepreneur, the concept of entrepreneurship, the stages of its development, and the importance of opportunity and how to seize it. The trainees were also divided into several groups and took part in collective activities to develop the spirit of teamwork and enhance cooperation among them.
It is worth noting that after the completion of the training, participants will be given the opportunity to implement 15 community initiatives aimed at introducing new participants to the skills acquired during the training. In addition, a team of researchers will work on producing 3 research papers discussing the challenges facing youth in the labor market, the available opportunities, and how to establish a small enterprise. A group of experts will also speak during 5 radio episodes about the opportunities and challenges in entrepreneurship in Palestine.
