The Palestinian Al-Jazeera Club organized a Ramadan evening yesterday under floodlights on its grass field in Gaza City, attended by Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Bassem Naim, Walid Ayoub, Vice President of the Palestinian Olympic Committee, Al-Jazeera Club President Ali Al-Nazli, Dr. Omar Shaban, Director of PalThink Foundation, and Dr. Alaa Al-Shatli, Secretary of the Paralympic Committee.
In a speech, Dr. Bassem Naim praised the achievements of Al-Jazeera Club despite its recent establishment, especially its role in sports for persons with disabilities. He called for attention to the disabled segment and for providing them with support, especially since they have honored Palestinian sports over the past two years by winning 30 medals in international forums.
For his part, Walid Ayoub expressed his pride in the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and their defiance of the occupation despite all obstacles, saying: “We are proud of sports in Gaza despite the obstacles they face,” and called for further solidarity and unity so that Palestinian sports may advance.
As for Al-Jazeera Club President Ali Al-Nazli, he welcomed those in attendance and thanked the Swiss government and PalThink Foundation for sponsoring the evening. During his speech, Omar Shaban, Director of PalThink for Strategic Studies, spoke about the foundation’s role in supporting the reconciliation and rapprochement project, noting that the Swiss ambassador to the Palestinian territories would visit the Gaza Strip and would be briefed on the humanitarian situation there.
The Baladna Center troupe then presented engaging artistic performances that included national and folkloric songs and popular dabke shows, which were greatly admired by the audience. The event concluded with a communal iftar, cultural competitions, and the distribution of prizes, attended by 300 people from several segments, including persons with disabilities and non-disabled persons, as one of the club’s objectives in the process of integration among different segments.
