PalThink for Strategic Studies organized a special video conference meeting with 23 American male and female university students who are currently visiting occupied Palestine until the middle of this month. The meeting was held on Monday morning with the aim of learning about and becoming acquainted with the latest developments in the Palestinian territories in general and the Gaza Strip in particular, with the participation of a number of members of PalThink’s board of directors, a number of its staff, representatives of civil society, and young activists. Omar Shaban, Director of PalThink for Strategic Studies, opened the meeting by welcoming the American students and participants, and began the discussion by thanking the visiting students for their interest in the events taking place in the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian territories in general. He stressed the importance of this meeting as an opportunity to convey the true and beautiful image of the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian people abroad, and he also presented a summary of the most prominent conditions experienced by citizens in the Strip, especially the youth. Shaban spoke about the issue of the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip and the resulting isolation and restrictions imposed on Palestinians in their daily lives, highlighting the repercussions of the blockade on the Palestinian-Israeli settlement process and the future of the two-state solution. For their part, the guests expressed their happiness at the opportunity to engage in dialogue with people from inside the Gaza Strip, given that it was the first time they had done anything similar, and described the meeting as a good opportunity for them to learn about and address several fundamental issues by posing and directing important questions to those present. The guests focused on the situation in the Gaza Strip before and after the Israeli withdrawal in 2005, in addition to the Palestinian position and public opinion regarding the issue of negotiations.
