The Shawaf Cultural Initiative held a seminar within the Tolerance and Nonviolence Project, titled “Culture and Art in Promoting Tolerance and Nonviolence,” on Wednesday evening, attended by the initiative’s founder, writer Yusri al-Ghoul, the founder of PalThink for Strategic Studies, Mr. Omar Shaban, and the director of the Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution.
The seminar opened with welcoming remarks by the novelist Yusri al-Ghoul, who noted that awareness of and belief in the other is the gateway to tolerance, and that however numerous nations may be, humanity is one.
Omar Shaban, Director and Founder of PalThink for Strategic Studies, said that sponsorship of this project came from a woman who had lost her only child, and that she serves humanity without regard to gender, color, or religion. He also touched on the important nature of the institution’s work in serving the Palestinian cause through developing awareness and thought and advancing the research and advisory capacities of youth. He thanked the Shawaf Initiative, which seeks to strengthen the spirit of creativity among talented young people.
The remarks of the guest, Dr. Iyad Abu Hajer, were important in discussing how to embrace and engage with a spirit of humanity, through accepting the other, adopting different points of view, and how art and literature can contribute to promoting this behavior.
The seminar concluded with a large number of interventions from the young writers in attendance.
