Amid the uproar over tariffs, Tot a Europa turned attention back to what it described as the barbarity in the Gaza Strip by covering an April 5 event at CIDOB on war and peace in the 21st century and the future of the Middle East. Amid all the whirlwind over tariffs from “Tot a Europa,” we wanted to remember the barbarity of the Gaza Strip. For this reason, we went to the meeting held last 5 April at CIDOB, the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs, at Casa Pedralbes, where several people connected to the conflict took part in a talk entitled “War and peace in the 21st century. The future of the Middle East: understanding the conflict and building peace.” On the one hand, Josep Borrell, the former High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and currently president of CIDOB, stressed that “most European states are closer to supporting Israel, whatever it does, than to placing limits on it.” The former Director-General of Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Avi Gil, believes that the agreement will not emerge from Gaza and Israel, “but rather from the international community.” In this regard, the founder and director of PalThink for Strategic Studies in Gaza, Omar Shaban, considers that the inaction of Europe and the United States could lead to serious consequences: “Gaza may be used by some radical group in Europe to take revenge in our name. When Bin Laden organized 11 September, he did not ask for our opinion; he simply used our name.”
