In an Al-Resalah report on the Gaza Marine gas field, Palestinian writer and economic specialist Omar Shaban criticises the arrangements for developing it: the project was not awarded by auction, the distribution of shares is unfair to the Palestinian people, and nobody knows how the tender was awarded, at what value or on what terms, because the agreements are made “secretly, in the dark”, away from the Legislative Council. He accuses the Palestinian government of lacking transparency, notes that the Palestinian Authority has received more than $25 billion since its creation yet remains in financial crisis, and calls on Palestinian factions to press for cancelling the Gaza Marine agreement, since international law allows any unjust contract to be rescinded.
