In a Palestinian Information Center survey of economists on the year just ended, Omar Shaban calls 2013 the worst year for the Palestinian economy in a decade, attributing it to the tightening of the blockade on Gaza, the destruction of the tunnels and the fall of the Egyptian government. “For six months the Gaza Strip has suffered difficult conditions in all its sectors – industrial, construction, institutional and others,” he says, voicing pessimism about the chances of improvement in the new year.
