In a statement to the Quds Net news agency, republished by Ammon News, economist Omar Shaban says the Palestinian economy is not a key player in the global economy and attracts no foreign investment, but warns that Israel will try to export its own crisis to the Palestinian territories as share prices fall on the Tel Aviv stock exchange. He adds that the Tel Aviv slump was expected given its close ties to New York, and predicts the downturn in the West, and in Israel in particular, will last until 2010–2011.
