Counting the Cost, Al Jazeera English's weekly economics programme, asks on 4 November 2023, almost four weeks into the war, whether Gaza will ever receive enough aid. Omar Shaban, founder and director of PalThink for Strategic Studies, joins from Cairo. He says the blockade turned Gaza from a productive, exporting economy into an aid-dependent one, that economic activity is at zero during the war and about two thirds of families rely on aid, and notes 17 escalations since 2007, five of them major wars, falling reconstruction aid and around 200,000 homes damaged as winter approaches.
